Shopify product page checklist
Question: What makes a good Shopify product page?
Short answer
A good Shopify product page tells a visitor what the product is, shows it honestly, makes choosing a variant easy, states the price, delivery time and returns policy plainly, and gives search engines a clear title and description. Visitors on your own store often arrive from social or search with no context, so the page has to do all the explaining.
Content
- Product title that names the item plainly.
- Description that leads with benefits and key specs, then details.
- Size guide, materials and care where relevant.
- Clear statement of what's included.
Images and media
- Several images: the product alone, in use, close-ups and scale.
- Images for each variant, so choosing a color updates the photo.
- Alt text describing each image for accessibility.
Variants, price and stock
- Variants (size, color) set up as options, not separate confusing products.
- Price, any compare-at price and taxes shown accurately.
- Inventory tracking on, so you don't sell what you don't have.
Trust and logistics
- Delivery estimate you can meet, including any production time.
- Link to your returns and shipping policies.
- Contact information that's easy to find.
Search details
Shopify lets you edit a product's page title, meta description and URL handle. Write them for a person reading a search result: what the item is and why it's worth a click. Shopify's Help Center explains where these settings live for products.
Example: tightening one product page
A store selling linen aprons has one photo, a description copied from the supplier and no delivery estimate. Using the checklist, the owner adds photos of the apron worn, a close-up of the fabric and a size chart, rewrites the description to lead with what it's made of and how it washes, adds a delivery estimate that includes production time, links the returns policy, and edits the search title and URL handle to "Linen apron with pockets".
Is this a good fit for you?
Likely a good fit if
- You're adding a new product to a Shopify store.
- Visitors view a product but rarely add it to the cart.
Think twice if
- Your store gets almost no visitors yet; traffic may be the bigger problem.
Common pitfalls
- Copying a supplier's description word for word.
- One photo per product.
- Delivery promises that ignore print-on-demand production time.
- Hiding the returns policy.
- Leaving the default URL handle and meta description.
Product page check
- Title names the product clearly.
- Description covers benefits, specs, sizing and care.
- Multiple images with alt text; variant images linked.
- Variants and inventory set up correctly.
- Delivery estimate and returns policy visible.
- Search title, description and URL handle edited.
- Page tested on a phone.
