How selling on TikTok Shop works
Question: How does selling on TikTok Shop work?
Short answer
TikTok Shop lets approved sellers list products in TikTok Shop Seller Center and sell them inside the TikTok app. Shoppers buy from shoppable videos, LIVE streams, your shop page and product search, and creators can promote your products through affiliate collaborations. You then ship each order yourself or use a fulfillment program, and you're measured on how well you deliver.
Eligibility, fees and rules differ by country, so start from the Seller Center for the region where you'll sell.
Register and get approved
You apply through TikTok Shop Seller Center. Expect to provide business or identity details, a payout method and product information, and to go through verification. TikTok Shop Academy, the official seller learning site, includes topics such as category requirements and a New Shop Probation Program, so new shops should expect extra requirements at the start.
How shoppers find your products
The common thread is content. A product that can be shown working, worn or transformed in a few seconds tends to suit the format better than one that needs a long explanation.
- Shoppable videos: short videos with your product linked.
- LIVE: selling during live streams, from your own account or a creator's.
- Shop tab and search: shoppers browsing or searching TikTok Shop directly.
- Creator affiliates: creators who promote your products and earn a commission you set through affiliate collaborations.
Fulfillment and performance
You can ship orders from your own location or warehouse, and TikTok Shop Academy covers a Fulfilled by TikTok option as well. Either way, TikTok Shop tracks how quickly and reliably you ship, and poor performance can limit your shop. Some print-on-demand services, including Printful, list TikTok Shop among their integrations, which matters if you sell printed products.
Fees
TikTok Shop charges fees on sales, and affiliate commissions come on top when a creator drives the sale. We haven't listed rates here because they vary by region and change; check the current fee details in Seller Center before you price.
Example
A seller of phone grips could film a short video showing the grip being attached, then invite creators in the affiliate program to post their own videos. Each video links to the same product listing, and orders flow into Seller Center for shipping.
Is this a good fit for you?
Likely a good fit if
- Your product is easy to show working in a short video.
- You or creators you work with can post regularly.
- You can ship quickly and consistently.
Think twice if
- Your product needs long explanations or consultations.
- You can't keep up if a video suddenly drives many orders.
- TikTok Shop doesn't operate for sellers in your country.
Common pitfalls
- Treating TikTok Shop like a catalog and posting no content.
- Setting affiliate commissions without checking they fit your margin.
- Underestimating shipping-speed expectations for new shops.
- Listing products in categories that need extra approval without checking first.
Before you apply
- Confirm TikTok Shop operates for sellers in your country.
- Read the onboarding and category guidance in TikTok Shop Academy.
- Prepare business details, a payout method and product information.
- Check current fees and plan a commission rate for creators.
- Decide how you'll ship and how fast you can do it.
- Plan a few short videos for each product.
